Do you feel like your hair is dry due to hair colouring? Well we finally have a solution that is basically like an insurance policy for your hair. It’s called Olaplex and it’s a game changer for the industry.
Olaplex to protect your hair from bleaching and colouring.
Olaplex is a hair repair treatment that is being endorsed by millions of people and hairdresser’s all over the world. There are other treatments available but they only hide the incurred damage with wax, oil or silicone films on the exterior of the hairs – giving the false impression of improved hair condition. While these shallow solutions are temporary and only focuses on the exterior of the hairs, Olaplex works by penetrating the hair and repairing the bonds from within.
The Science behind Olaplex
Hair has lots of keratin proteins, which has the amino acid cysteine. Cysteine is unique because it contains a sulfur (S) atom. Usually, two sulfurs will unite together to form a disulfide bond (S-S), creating a link between two proteins. All these bonded protein is partly responsible for your hairs on the whole shape and strength. But when hair is permed or straightened or coloured, these bonds are intentionally broken into two SH (“free thiol”) groups, and then reformed after the hair is pulled into its new shape. Restructuring these bonds typically takes a few days.
The hair bonds starts to break with several sessions of colouring, but Olaplex helps by spotting single sulfur hydrogen bonds and cross linking them back together to form disulfide bonds before, during and after hair colouring services. Olaplex comprises of a single active ingredient, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate and is an effective product with 8 worldwide patents. Olaplex is free of silicone, sulfates, phthalates, DEA, aldehydes, which makes it very safe for use. It’s available in a couple of forms is usually mixed in with colouring products to reduce damage, or it can be also used as a separate treatment.
The Olaplex Procedure
The Olaplex Hair repair system includes three products: the Olaplex bond multiplier, Olaplex Bond Perfector and Olaplex Hair Perfector.
Bond Multiplier has the highest concentration and is added to the chemical mix by you before processing. It penetrates the hairs and rebuilds bonds as they are broken by the process. It is also used in the now-famous Olaplex standalone treatment to restore damaged hair back to health.
Bond Perfector is used by you after the process and it too cross links broken bonds leftover from the chemical service.
Hair Perfector is used at home by your client to maintain their hair’s health in between salon visits. Remind your client that it is not a moisturiser. They should continue washing their hair with their favourite shampoo and conditioner after using it.
Bond Multiplier No.1 is directly mixed into the colour; the No. 2 Bond Perfector is applied before the shampooing. The No. 3 Hair Perfector is for your client to take home and is part of this professional service that the client will have to use once a week.
